KMC's Wish List for Recovering from Fire in Summer 2024!

The Kamloops Music Collective [KMC] is a non-profit organization that provides year round music education programming to young musicians in Kamloops and the surrounding area. Our work ensures that all young musicians have the opportunity to learn, play and perform music under the guidance of professional music educators.

August 2024 KMC took a hard blow to our instrument and equipment inventory when the Kamloops United Church caught fire during one of our summer programs. Many of you may know that we run some of our 1 week spring break and summer programs out of the main spaces in the Kamloops United Church. What you may not be aware of is that we also had a storage space below the church where we kept the majority of our instrument and program equipment. Unfortunately between the water damage, and heat, mold claimed much of our inventory as did the caving in roof(floor from above where the fire occurred) and humidity caused items to rust, splinter and split. Ultimately we were only able to save about 2 thirds of the equipment we had stored there.

As the long process of working through our insurance claim began, we recognized right away that it would not begin to scratch the surface of what we have lost. And at the same time we are beginning to plan our Spring Break programs, for which we have very few instruments to lead large and small group activities. Not to mention finding a new location for the program to be carried out.

With this in mind we ask that our amazing Kamloops community help us in getting ready for our upcoming programs by purchasing something off of our Amazon Wish List. This wish list has been created with everything in mind that we had had stored in the basement storage space, not to mention anything we used on a consistent basis with all of our year-round programs, and we even added a few items that we had been hoping to add to our programs.
